2021-22 Housing Programs in Action |
In July 2021 we celebrated the completion of the Vielbaum Family home in Plymouth and shortly after broke ground on the final two Gateway Project houses on Erie Avenue in Sheboygan. Framing, wrapping and windows were completed before winter, and the properties were dried in just before Christmas. This allowed for interior work to be undertaken through the coldest months of the year, completing and dedicating the homes in April and May respectively.
We broke ground on the first of three new builds in early June. More detailed information on current projects can be found under the Current Projects drop down above

2020 Housing Programs in Action
Like many businesses, Habitat for Humanity Lakeside was been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. In mid-March, we made a difficult decision to close our Sheboygan ReStore and layoff our staff. We were fortunate to receive a Paycheck Protection Program loan through the CARES Act which allowed us to bring our staff back to work towards the end of April. As soon as staff returned, we started creating a plan to safely reopen our ReStore. The big day of our reopening came on May 27. Since then our ReStore has been busy and sales slowly returned to pre-COVID-19 levels. We were so thankful for donations and grants to keep our housing programs operating amid sales losses in our ReStore. The families we served in 2020 are outlined below.

Home Repair and Rock the Block Programs
In 2019, we worked with the Smith Family through our county-wide Home Repair Program to provide financing and contracting for a new roof, painting and other repair work on her home. This project was not able to be finished in 2019 so we will continue it as soon as weather allows in 2020. Through our Rock the Block Program, we completed 14 projects in a targeted neighborhood on Sheboygan's north side. We worked with nine homeowners in this neighborhood to provide affordable repairs on their homes. We completed five additional community projects in the neighborhoods - one for RCS Empowers, a local non-profit, and four neighborhood clean-up projects in alleyways and streets. A video recap of our 2019 Rock the Block event is included below.
